The opening title sequence shows that the movie was cropped, at least on the right. Eric Vornoff, in Ed Wood's Bride of the Monster. The ultimate goal of the top villain is the same as Bela Lugosi's character, Dr. It proceeds basically as King of the Zombies, an intentional comedy, does. I found absolutely no surprises in the story or plot. The movie is well paced, and if you can enjoy the absurdity, quite enjoyable. The early scenes with bikini clad young women were a definite plus. A scene at the end where a knifing occurs, and a flare gun is used as a weapon are well done. Shots of the island when the good guys escape are pretty funny, too. The fight scenes and gunplay (might have just shouted Bang, Bang!) were nearly as funny as the zombies.
That aspect, some dialog, occasionally the directing and editing, and the special makeup used for the zombies had me smiling, rolling my eyes, or laughing under my breath throughout. The behavior of the characters is so much of the early 1960s that they serve as a caricature of folks of that time. On a side note, watch out for an uncredited role as Janine, the hero's love interest, by a pre pop career Lana Del Rey. In fact, though you're tempted a few times to press the pause button, it is a bit of lethargic fun. The '60s Dr Who style zombie makeup is enjoyably hokey, and reminds me a bit of the red ping-pong ball eyed 'monster' in Jess Franco's egregious 'The Devil Hunter'. Though the voodoo sequences are surprisingly well-staged and atmospheric, you can argue that they go on too much, especially the one padding time out at the end, just before the piece turns into a low-budget Bond film. This movie has definite pacing issues it drags especially around the hour mark.

Aside from a bloodless decapitation, there's no gore here, but it's not too bad, regardless, though no patch on the near-forgotten, minor Lugosi classic White Zombie, perhaps the only film of this sort you need to see. I've wanted to see this film for a while, though it's known mainly for its smartly lurid title and being the makeweight in a pre-cert double bill.
